FAQ

Come to the river and beaches recommend by Lonely Planet, only a short walk from the end of the road at Agujitas town, in Drake Bay, Osa peninsula.  Great to cool off after a tour of hiking Corcovado National Park, scuba diving or snorkeling Cano Island, horseback riding, swinging on a canopy tour or checking out the blue water pelagic sealife.

Starting in nearby Corcovado National Park on the peaks of Cerro Agujas at more than 700 meters, the Rio Agujas plunges and pools through unbroken gallery rainforest from source to sea. The rivers boca, where it opens to the sea, flows into the west side of Drake Bay. The last kilometer is a spectacularly forested gorge, dripping with waterfalls and crystal clear water most of the year. The canyon, really a kind of a mini fjord, runs into the Pacific Ocean and creates a tidal bore; a biodiverse habitat ripe for wildlife and fun. Come and understand the water cycle and the true value of clean waters.

Kayaking the tidal canyon is easy and appropriate for all ages. Our excellent, super stable, easy to use, even your first time, kayaks are only $5 U.S. an hour per person.

You will get on your kayak at a safe dock in the river mouth, you can usually stay dry, if you want.

Then you have a choice, you can easily head up the shaded Agujas river to gorgeous primary forest, an explosion of birds and animals, swimming holes, waterfalls, creeks, springs and a native orchid garden, or, paddle through the safe channel into the Pacific for marine life like turtles, mantas, dolphins and whales and right round the point to the close by, incredibly beautiful, wild and clean stretch of beaches known as Cocolito and Caletas. This is a great way to see some of these most gorgeous and uncroweded beaches in Costa Rica. You just might want to do river and sea and take a picnic. If you want we have excellent guides who can make your trip that much better.

Lightweight Old Town Canoe Spirit Kayaks, singles or doubles, life jackets, paddles, and multilingual safety and ecosystems briefing from experienced local kayakers and naturalists. Guides, mask and fins, dry bags and photo video DVD of your tour are available for additional charges. Bring your cameras in dry bags or boxs.

Wanna go upstream? A awesome guided trip for those that are very fit. You should already be a kayaker, surfer or other type of adult athlete for this tour. We work it for hours upstream with dozens of portages but then its one time down, drops and all. So sweet.

Wanna learn to kayak surf? Our yaks are sweet for surfing, if you are fit we can have you surfing your first session or your course is free. Try a kayak surf course at our Kayak Surf School, its easier than you think. Our instructor was once a top ten world champion kayak surfer and has taught kayak surfing for more than 15 years.

We also offer mother ship supported guided trips to kayak Isla Violin and Bird Rocks together with the giant Terraba Sierpe Mangrove Forest. Epic. Half day and full day. A possible hiding place for the famed treasures of Sir Francis Drake and a secret Indian city. Incredible bird watching, mangrove tunnels, rugged forested sea cliffs and small islets clumped together swirling with marine life. Caves and waterfalls cascading into the sea. Nice Beaches. Really Good Surf if you want. Wild.

Bring sun protection, water shoes and a bottle of water. Wear or bring a bathing suit. High tide is easier to go up the river, but at low tide cool beaches and pools form.

Due to logistics we operate by reservation only.
