Los Cachalotes pigmeo y enano. Meet Costa Rica´s Koiga Whales. Also known as pygmy and dwarf sperm whales, these Cetaceans live offshore of Manzanillo, Talamanca, Limon, way down on the South Caribbean Coast. Dive down to see the first proof of them and that their young are born here in Costa Rica in this video from 2003.
You can try to see them on a boat trip from Manzanillo when the seas are flat and there is no wind. You will have to be very quite if you want to see the pygmy or dwarf sperm whales in the Caribe Sur of Costa Rica.
Koigas can be seen in group of at least 50 spread out over quite a large area. They are so far most often found offshore of Manzanillo, as close as six kilometers straight out from the center of town, in water more than one thousand meters deep.
All groups seen so far by Costa Cetacea include very small young, indicating that Costa Rica is birthing waters for Koiga Whales.
