Come see Manzanillo and the protected waters of the National Wildlife Refuge.
Lonely Planet says that Manzanillo Beach is "The Best Beach in Costa Rica."  Find out why.  Video Guide above and words and photos below.  Go.

December, January and Febuary is surf time.  A great season for kayaking and dolphin trips.  The dive season is over until mid March although there may be a few days of 10 to 20 foot viz here and there.
From mid March to sometime around May or June we usually have top class beach diving, and excellent offshore deeper diving.  No one knows how June to August will be, could be surf, could be dive.  Then boom, dive time again in September and October.  For you weather heads, this happens when we pass through the Doldrums on their yearly migration north and south with the solar equator.

Kayaking, Dolphin Trips, and Jungle Hikes can usually go when sea to rough for diving.

Unique to the world, Bottlenose and Tucuxi dolphins here in Talamanca, hang out together and even have sex between species on a regular basis. These interspecies interactions were first discovered and documented by Costa Cetacea Guides Shawn and Vanessa Larkin with some of their friends back in the mid 90s.

Black coral trees are white underwater. The coral was once crafted to turn black in order to sell as jewelry. Check out the tentacles of each coral polyp. Like an upside down jellyfish they live in the self made condos and build the reef. They grap little plankton floating by to eat but they also get nutrients and color from alga that live in their condos with them. Dude, Symbiosis.
