The mythical Caribbean Costa Rica Guyana Dolphins also known as Tucuxi dolphins. DNA tests in 2007 showed that they are a different species than what South American Indians call Tucuxi, although they may appear the same. Here they have been called Tucuxi since the mid 90s, before that they were known as Small One in Talamanca patois for at least a few decades, and probably much longer. Pre Columbian Indian pottery from the area has been found with dolphin motifs. This shot is 18 minutes boat ride from Aquamor, Manzanillo. Click the doral fin with the nick in it to learn more about Guyana Dolphins in Costa Rica.
Check out the tentacles of each coral polyp. Like an upside down jellyfish they live in the self made condos and build the reef. They grap little plankton floating by to eat but they also get nutrients and color from alga that live in their condos with them. Dude, Symbiosis.

December, January and Febuary is surf time. A great season for kayaking and dolphin trips. The dive season is over until mid March although there may be a few days of 10 to 20 foot viz here and there. From mid March to sometime around May or June there is usually top class beach diving, and excellent offshore deeper diving. No one knows how June to August will be, could be surf, could be dive. Then boom, dive time again in September and October. For you weather heads, this happens when we pass through the Doldrums on their yearly migration north and south with the solar equator. But with climate change all the old pattens are changing.
Kayaking, Dolphin Trips, and Jungle Hikes can usually go when sea to rough for diving.
